Castiglioncello
Take Me BackCastiglioncello is a small part of the bigger comune of Rosignano Marittimo Mediterranean, in the province of Livorno, Tuscany, Italy. Evolution of this vantage point allows a great view into the Ligurian Sea, surrounded by pinewoods and hills that only end at to the sea forming cliffs, little inlets, coves and sandy beaches.
The area was first inhabited in Roman times. The Medici Grand Dukes of Tuscany had a watchtower built in the 17th century.
Castiglioncello is a renowned sea resort, enjoyed since the 19th century. People who came to live here include, Marcello Mastroianni, Luchino Visconti and Vittorio Gassman.
Macchiaioli was a group of Italian artists active throughout Tuscany in the second half of the nineteenth century.
